If you are wanting to get your Iowa Permit To Carry, we would love to have you at one of our classes!

Our Permit To Carry Classes are informative, entertaining and most of all non-intimidating!  We teach the class as if it’s the first time everyone attending is hearing the information for the first time, because for a lot of people, it is.  So if you’re an absolute newcomer to firearms, have never handled a gun before and are nervous about being intimidated or feeling dumb- DON’T BE!!

You won’t find Dave, the instructor, walking into the classroom asking how many weapons he has hidden on him because we don’t feel that is relevant in a ‘real world’ scenario .  You also won’t have to listen to him telling ‘war stories’- the class is concise and relevant to what we feel is important to the information that you need to learn.

Some of the topics covered include:
– Laws- We cover Iowa Codes 704 & 724 that pertain to Concealed Carry in Iowa
– What you can and cannot do when carrying a firearm
– Iowa’s Stand Your Ground Law and how it applies to you
– How to get your Permit once you’ve completed the Class
– Where you can and cannot carry by law once you have your permit
– Firearm Safety
– What firearm is best suited for you- we pass around 15-20 of the most popular concealed carry
pistols so you can handle them an.
– Different types of ammunition and what type is best suited for a particular situation
– Different types of holsters
– Discuss different firearm accessories such as lasers and lights
– Other training that is available to further your education and skill

Once you get your permit, it is valid in the following states:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming

Cost for the Class is:
$40 if you are getting your permit for the first time.
$20 if you have a permit and would like a ‘refresher’ course.
$15 if you are current Military or are a Veteran.  We know that you don’t have to take a class to get your permit if you are a Veteran. However, we feel it is very important that everyone who chooses to carry is familiar with laws, ect, so we offer a deep discount to encourage Veterans to attend a class before getting their permit.

Refuse to be a Victim Class

We never think a crime can happen to us, until it actually does. While sometimes unfortunate things do happen unexpectedly, it is important to be equipped with the knowledge and skills for personal safety and crime prevention. Having a personal safety strategy in place and knowing the techniques and tactics you can use to avoid becoming an easy victim can help you live smarter and be safer.

“Crimes of Opportunity” are those committed without planning or forethought; when criminals realize they have a chance to commit a crime, they seize the opportunity. Don’t be an easy target. We can all pinpoint times where we’ve made ourselves an easy target – whether it was keeping our heads buried in our phones, parking in a dimly lit area at night, or leaving our houses or cars unlocked. But there are many more, less obvious situations that make us vulnerable as well.

The Refuse To Be A Victim® program teaches the tips and techniques you need to be alerted to dangerous situations and to avoid becoming a victim.
This is a great course that is a non-firearms related and is more geared toward teaching attendees to be more self-aware and prepared.
Topics covered include:

Mental Preparedness- Prepare yourself for any situation that may arise

Home Security- Securing what’s inside your house, as well as outside your house

Physical Security- Don’t ignore your instincts – if something feels wrong, it probably is!

Travel Security- Making sure you are safe no matter where you are

Cyber Security- Technological advances have made individuals more vulnerable to being victimized

Self-Defense Training- Learn what types of training you can take to protect yourself

Automobile Security- Equip yourself with the necessities for any type of situation

Personal Defense Devices- Learn about & watch demonstrations about a wide variety of tools that you can use for personal protection

Psychology of Criminals- Understand what makes a criminal a predator and how to outsmart them before they target you.

Basics of Handguns Class

Our Basics Of Handguns course is a wonderful course to become more familiar with your handgun.
This is our ‘Handguns 101’ class; in it we encourage attendees to bring their own handguns so that they can become more familiar with it and learn how their own handgun functions.
Topics covered include:
– Loading and unloading your handgun
– Field stripping/ tearing down your handgun
– How to properly clean your handgun
– Proper grip and stance for shooting
– Proper aiming techniques
– Proper trigger control and trigger pull for shooting

Attendees will also utilize laser cartridges that fit into their own gun to experience where shots will go when they pull the trigger, which is a great tool to help with the entire shooting sequence.

Attendees will also shoot CO2 powered semi-automatic air pistols that shoot bb’s and/or pellets.  These are training pistols that are exact replicas of ‘real’ pistols and give you the experience of shooting a semi-automatic pistol without the recoil.

This is a very hands-on course, and therefore is limited to 8 students per class.
